The Passage meets The Hunger Games in a gripping new series from Carnegie-shortlisted Rick Yancey. After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one. Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave. On a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, until Cassie meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan may be her only hope for rescuing her brother and even saving herself. Now she must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up. Cassie Sullivan gets up.

Source: I received an e-copy of this book from the publisher - via NetGalley - in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion on the book; it's my true opinion only.

The 5th Wave is an incredibly hyped up book in the BookTube world. Normally when a lot of people will say a book is "really good" and "amazing", then surely it must be good, right? Wrong. Not everyone will "love" a book as I found out myself. I honestly don't know why this book was hyped really... I will give my reasons without spoiling.

I attempted to go into this book by not setting myself too high.

The writing really is phenomenal. Straight away I was glued at the beginning and I was like "Yes. Give it to me, baby

Aliens are an interesting subject, and a connection between a human and an alien...me likey that idea.

I really like Cassie as a main character. She tells the story well, and I was really interested in hearing about her life & story. I like how it was written in 1st person.

Normally I don't have a problem with multi-perspectives, but when you end up getting SO many people telling their parts of the story, it gets SO confusing!! Half the time I didn't know who was talking x_x

What I thought was stupid was having perspectives from Sammy and "Zombie". I just thought it pointless and didn't make a difference to me. It just felt like Rick Yancey needed a space to be filled, and that's what he did.

I found like I wanted to force myself to read past it and go back to Cassie and Evan. Their part of the story was more interesting.

I also liked Evan. I wanted to know more about him, and I hope we get to see more of him in the sequel. I demand it!

I like how it was dark in places and very serious. It was even humorous at times! (which I liked).

I really like the cover to the book. It's kind of relaxing in a way, yet spooky.

The ending to the book was strange. I still don't know what really happened. Things were left unexplained. Maybe they will be explained in the sequel. I sincerely hope so!

I'm in no way giving this book a mean bash. I did really enjoy it, just didn't "love" it like some people did. I think the hype did ruin it for me in honesty. I will still read the sequel though.

I gave this book four out of five stars. In my opinion, it still has room for improvement. I just hope it gets better in the next book.

If you like aliens in a dystopian world, then definitely give this a try. A lot of people have enjoyed this - and who knows - maybe you will too? =)

I hope you have enjoyed this review.

  Happy reading =)
