Author: E L James
Publisher: Vintage
Rating: 4/5 stars

 Synopsis:

Having missed upon a chance to interview Christian Grey, Anastasia's roommate Kate asks her if she can take her place and collect notes. Kate hands Anastasia a question sheet she has prepared to use for the interview. Anastasia attends the interview where she meets the mysterious rich entrepreneur Christian Grey, and she finds him intriguing. Christian then keeps meeting her by chance, and then they decided to make arrangements to meet properly, rather than bumping into each other all the time. After that, a sizzling firecracker of bedroom antics commence throughout the story. Christian is not a relationship person, and Anastasia wants more, for it isn't long before she realises she has fallen in love with him. However, Christian Grey is hiding skeletons in his closet, and as Anastasia attempts to pull them out, she is never too sure if she wants to discover the secrets.

 My thoughts:

This is the first book in the trilogy 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. The second book is 'Fifty Shades Darker', followed by 'Fifty Shades Freed'. Throughout the story, you are following the roller-coaster of desires between the two main characters Anastasia and Christian.
Anastasia seems a strong character enough, and she's discovering all the new things that come with sex. She seems nosy at times when poking into Christian's life, but it's not her fault Christian isn't much of a talker of his past. In fact, he seems to cover it up with sex, and it does annoy me at times with their constant obsession with it. Christian is mysterious enough. We know nothing about him, and we want to know more, but he's not giving us anything.
I like the structure of the book. It's told from Anastasia's point of view, and in between her telling the story, you have a few emails between the characters which are quite fun.
The ending I found quite a cliffhanger, and it really makes me want to read the sequel as I want to know what happens next.
In general, there were places in the book that hooked me, but there was so much sexual activities happening it got a little tedious at times, and that is why I gave it a four star rating. If given the chance, I'm not sure if I would read it again or not.
Overall, I recommend it if you are interested in deep, mysterious sexual novels.

Happy reading =)

  1. I read the entire series and honestly, I loved them. I'm not into erotica books but I saw the on-again, off-again love story in this one and it was beautiful. They deny their feelings and have all these issues and it's just a beautiful story.

    Great review :) happy reading!

  2. Yeah, I admit I really liked the fact that they were hiding stuff from each other, and when it seemed that Christian cared about her I was like awwh. And same. I'm not into these sort of books, but I had to give it a try to see what all the hype was about. Are the 2nd and 3rd book any better?
