I've left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you dont, put the book back on the shelf, please.

Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions? Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

I was recommended to read this book around Christmas, as it's that seasonal time in the story.

Dash and Lily's Book of Dares is a very cute and fluffy read. It's definitely the sort of book you want to curl up with by the fire. I totally agree; it does make it better to read around Christmas.

There was a lot of plotting with the "book of dares": how it would be hidden, what tasks needed to be done to retrieve it, etc.

The storyline was definitely fun.

What I thought was weird: when Dash & Lily met. It was an odd sort of meeting and the reaction from the characters was unusual. I thought that it would of had more of a bigger exclamation. Like "IT'S YOU!!" *swoon*

Dash was an interesting character. He's clever, plays the game well, and is very witty. He has a broken family, which is intriguing to see.

Lily is bright and has some interesting dares. You can see she feels alone, and the game is like a new start in her life that she finds enjoyable.

Langston is a lazy so-and-so. He is Lily's gay brother, and he is loyal as he keeps her secrets.
Langston and Lily have a strange sibling bond.

I got really excited when reading what was put in the note book. It was a big game of secrecy.
Both Lily and Dash wanted to keep this game to themselves as it was a special part of their lives that they wanted to treasure.
The "book of dares" is like a quirky game of chase.

Dash and Lily tell the story well from their sides.

I did get a feeling of angst as I wanted them to meet so BADLY.

I really like the cover to this book. It is full of festivity.

The chapters also have a short length, which is always nice.

The writing is addictive, fun and draws you in.

The beginning of the book was good as we were straight in.

I didn't like the end of the book. I just felt like it ended too abruptly. It needed to be a bit longer to smooth things out better.

Overall I do recommend this for Christmas. I did enjoy it, and so I gave it four out of five stars.

I hope you have enjoyed this review.

Happy reading =)

  2. Great review! I understand what you mean about the ending. I think Levithan's endings tend to do that quite a lot though.
